Hi Gideon,

It's possible that the shop will make all the necessary adjustments to your laptop when installing the additional memory. However, just to be on the safe side, here are the instructions for adjusting for the amount of memory on your computer, and I suggest you double check the settings when you get your laptop back.
  1. RIGHT-Click on 'My Computer' and choose Properties
  2. Click the 'Hardware' tab
  3. On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click [Settings].
  4. Under Virtual memory, click [Change].
  5. There are two editable figures there, change both  'Initial size' and  'Maximum Size' to the figure 'Recommended' figure at the bottom of the window.
  6. Click [OK] to close all windows. You may be prompted to restart the computer, in which case you should do so.
As for defragmenting the disc, the process is:
  • Start up the computer in Safe Mode by clicking F8 at startup (just before 'Windows is starting') and choosing the option from the menu. Safe mode is slow, so be patient!
  • Once the laptop is ready, run My Defrag.
  • Choose drive C: and 'System Disc Monthly' and click [Run].
  • The process may well take a few hours the first time you run it. Subsequent runs should be much quicker.
