Saving attachments in GMail

When saving attachments in GMail, your browser uses the same settings it would use for downloading any file from the internet. In internet explorer, you are prompted to "Save" or "Save As" every time you do so, but in other browsers, the default setting is to save the file to a folder called "Downloads". If you would rather choose where to save your files, follow these steps:

Firefox

  • In the "Firefox" menu. choose Options

  • In the "General" category, click the option to Always ask me where to save files.

  • Click [OK] to return to main window.

Chrome,

  • Click on the spanner in the top-right corner and select Settings.

  • On the left, click Under the Hood.

  • In the "Downloads" section tick the option to Ask where to save each file before downloading.

  • Close the "Settings" tab.
